    Project 2 - Tiktok / Insta proposal

I wrote a proposal for the upcoming final project. I have never used TikTok before, and I don't watch Instagram reels that much, so I chose my favourite trends from Instagram reels which I watch occasionally, rather than TikTok.

However, I realized that I had misunderstood the assignment topic, very close to the deadline, so I had to start over from scratch. I decided to personify two BTS songs because I thought it would be unique, as I had never seen songs personified before.

Because I had to quickly decide on a new topic, and complete the drawing and video editing within a day, I needed to keep the characters as simple as possible. Drawing three characters might have been too time-consuming, and drawing only one would have been too brief, so I decided to draw two characters. Additionally, to create contrasting characters, I chose two BTS songs with different vibes."

After completing the drawings with a simple design, I edited the video in Capcut following the lecturer's advice.

    Project 2 - Production shoot

For this project, we are tasked with reshooting some scenes from the movie 'Everything Everywhere All At Once'. After learning the roles each member needed to take on for filming the scenes, we assigned them accordingly. Below is a description of the roles we took:

Dear Producer: Please lead the team in preproduction to get ready for the production shoot. Remind your crew to achieve the tasks below:

Producer: Bring a laptop to transfer footage and audio after the shoot, and share with the crew later. Send reminders on shooting day morning to be punctual, crew need to be on set 20 minutes before the shooting time for preparation. Share all expenses among the team (batteries, props, printing).

Director: Familiar with the shots. Download the videos on your phone. Select costumes together with the Art director. Show me a photo of actors with selected costumes, full body and half body. Costume preferably not black nor white to avoid overexposed and underexposed.

Assistant Director: Familiar with the shots. Prepare shooting schedule ( shooting time 3 hrs, which shot shoot first, which second? Allocate all shots with appropriate shooting time ) Print one set of your shooting schedule, 2 sets of storyboards (B & W). Write down all "OK takes".

Art Director: Select costumes together with the Director. Show me a photo of actors with selected costumes, full body and half body. Costume preferably not black nor white to avoid overexposed and underexposed. Prepare all props. Prepare make-up. Props for background (consider stuff in the studio)

Actors: Familiar with the dialogue and shots. Select costumes together with the Art director and director. Show me a photo of actors with selected costumes, full body and half body. Costume preferably not black nor white to avoid overexposed and underexposed.

D.O.P, Lighting crews: Familiar with the shots. Know the lighting style for all shots (especially low-key lighting, where to set up the light)

Local Sound: Ensure to prepare a pack of DOUBLE A ENERGIZER batteries (4 in one pack) (The batteries are for audio equipment, so the team need to share the expenses. No other brand is allowed, only DOUBLE A ENERGIZER is accepted.) Write down all "OK takes".

As an assistant director, I organized the list and schedule of the scenes to be shot in the day using Notion. I didn't know how to do it, so I referred to the schedule table a lot in the description.

    W6 - 7

Originally, I was supposed to record the OK takes, but since I have a lot to do, I asked Areeya, the producer, to record them for me.

After that, I started editing the footage that the producer, Areeya organized on Google Drive.

I tried to match the colour grading of each scene as closely as possible to what I saw in the storyboard. Since the lecturer was told that it was okay to change the order of the scenes, I rearranged them as I thought fit.

    REFLECTION

    Experience

For about seven weeks, I worked on a group task that had to be taken by my team members and a task that had to be edited by myself. The first assignment was to film and upload a video on TikTok or Instagram Reels based on a self-chosen topic. I chose to use Instagram Reels instead of TikTok. The second assignment was a group project where we had to collaborate and recreate scenes from a movie with assigned group members.

    Observations

For the first TikTok/Instagram assignment, despite having ample time, I initially misunderstood the topic, which forced me to redo it quickly in a short period. At first, I panicked at the realization of my mistake and having to start over, but I managed to stay calm and resubmit the assignment. As for the group project, it was my team members' enthusiasm that helped us successfully complete it. I was hesitant as an assistant director during the filming, which made me realize the importance of communication and active participation within a group.

    Findings

Although there were many regrets, I am satisfied that I managed to submit the results for both assignments. The second project was particularly challenging, which made it more disappointing. The biggest factor was my inability to actively participate as an assistant director in the group project. My personality was the main reason, and I was quite surprised to learn how much the assistant director needed to lead the filming process. It was a meaningful experience that allowed me to get a rough idea of how things work during filming in the film industry.
