Three Favorite Stop-Motion Videos
Stop Motion Video 1: Van Gogh's Dinner / Stop Motion
I liked Vincent Van Gogh, so I became interested as soon as I saw the title. And then I picked this stop motion because of the texture of the painting's expression. What I was most amazed by was that its painting expression was natural. So I wondered how this YouTuber made this stop-motion video. After watching the video till the end, I realized that they drew all the painting expressions with their ends. I inferred is it a real drawing or is it a studio painting, and is that hand a real person and is that body a real human body or just a doll, or is this all some kind of miniature, but I was a little shocked when I saw they drew all the painting expressions and took a picture of each frame of a scene.
Stop Motion Video 2: Cake cooking when you can't study / Stop Motion / ASMR
First of all, the concept of this stop-motion video was interesting. As a student, I couldn't help but agree with this concept, so it was so funny. The unique idea that a student was frustrated with the exam studying and baking a cake using the workbooks and notes was enough to attract my attention. It was simple but also very unique. "The stuff I've studied doesn't seem to stick in my head, so I guess I'll have to eat it to absorb it into my body," was a funny sentence that comes to mind.
Stop Motion Video 3: Drawing with Wool: APPLE
I liked that soft style from the first time I saw the thumbnail. This was a video that was less than a minute long, but the soft texture coming from the wool and the unique way of showing the drawing with coloured pencils were so good. And I was amazed how this YouTuber can even draw the apple with wool so well. I couldn't expect to pick up the painting and turn it into a real apple at the end, and bite it, but I liked it because I could feel the apple that had a more soft woollen feel.
Final Project - Stop motion
Lecture note W11: Stop Motion Editing Brief
For this final Project, I had to create a stop-motion video that was at least 30 sec long. So, I started by organising my ideas and themes from the proposal slide provided by the lecturer and then made a plan.
Final Project Proposal slide
First, to design the characters that fit the synopsis and story, I bought paper that matched as closely as possible and created the bodies of the paper dolls. There were some changes from the original sketches because there were elements and requirements that couldn’t be realized exactly as sketched, so I had to make adjustments.

After creating the paper dolls and preparing the materials, I took photos and edited the video in Adobe After Effects according to the lecturer’s advice. There were specific settings that needed to be configured, which I referred to using the After Effects files and lecture notes provided by the lecturer in class.

REFLECTION
Experience
For about six weeks, I created a stop-motion video by myself. During the first week, I selected my three favorite stop-motion videos from the internet. Then, around the tenth week, I began planning and choosing the theme for the final project, which was the stop-motion video.
Observations
Though filming and editing the stop-motion took a long time, it didn’t take as long as I had anticipated. Instead, I spent more time deciding on the theme, characters, and synopsis. Inspired by BTS’s song ‘The Truth Untold,’ I carefully planned and steadily progressed after much deliberation.
Findings
It was my first time shooting a stop-motion video by myself, and it presented some challenges. Most of the previous filming projects were group assignments, so I was a bit worried about doing it alone, but it turned out better than I expected. Perhaps because of my personality, I was able to move quickly from one step to the next. Looking at the final product, there are certainly parts that could be improved. However, I finished it successfully, and instead of feeling discouraged, I tried to stay positive and not dwell on the shortcomings. Since this was the final project on the fascinating subject of stop-motion, I hope it will benefit my future endeavors.
