    Project 2

In Project 2, I needed to add more detailed elements to my character. So, I started by working on the hair first.

    Fig. 1.2 Hair (Week 10 / 29.11.2024)

After receiving my lecturer’s advice, I refined the hair further. Then, I began focusing on elements like clothing, making an effort to match the design as closely as possible to the original sketch.

My lecturer mentioned that adding colours would help identify which parts of the character still need improvement. So, after fixing a few elements, I proceeded to add colours.

    FEEDBACK

    WEEK 11

Specific Feedback: Slightly lengthen the hair by resizing it uniformly. Sharpen the eyes and nose for a more stylized look. Add more definition to the jawline with a stronger shadow on the left side. Make the upper lip thicker and sharper.

General Feedback: Ensure the features remain balanced and stylized while maintaining harmony across the design.

    WEEK 13

Specific Feedback: Make the space between the jacket sleeves sharper and narrower. Adjust the arms slightly to match the muscle definition. Add a subtle crease to the pants’ crotch area, and when viewed from the side, position the pants’ legs at a slight diagonal instead of straight down. Slightly reduce the chest width if desired. Soften the knees a little and redesign the shoes with simpler details, adding a ribbon for extra flair. Sharpen the nostrils and enhance the lips. Make the cheeks more defined, and adjust the hands to look more natural.

General Feedback: Ensure these changes enhance the character’s overall balance and flow, without overcomplicating the design. Keep the proportions natural and maintain the style throughout.

    REFLECTION

    Experience

Since this was an assignment focused on adding details, I relied on rewatching the lecturer’s lessons and learning through YouTube videos for the elements I wasn’t familiar with. Hair was the most complicated part, and since Blender’s system seemed a bit different, I attempted it using a YouTube tutorial. For the clothing, I referred to the lecturer’s lessons as much as possible.

    Observations

I spent a lot of time adding detailed elements. However, I felt that my speed had improved since I became more familiar with Blender while working on Project 1. Even so, creating intricate patterns, like snowflake designs, still felt challenging.

    Findings

While working on Project 2, I noticed an improvement in my skills, which gave me a sense of pride. Although the final results are still lacking in quality, I was glad to see some progress thanks to the lecturer’s feedback and lessons. That said, I still find Blender’s sculpting tools awkward to use, and I regret not being able to achieve the level of detail I wanted for elements like skin texture or clothing.
