    Exercise & Assigments Brief

    Project 1

I had to make a poster based on a recipe from a YouTube channel, so for now I've picked up about 1 recipe that I'm interested in.

Discover Cicci's cheesy mashed potato pie from Genova! | Pasta Grannies

A woman called Cicci is trying to make a pie called polpetone alla Genovese, where polpettone means very large meatball or meatloaf in this case. It's a potato pie.

The ingredients in this video are 1.5 kg floury potatoes, 350g green beans, 4 eggs, one onion, a teaspoon of marjoram, 50g grated Parmesan, and extra virgin olive oil.

Here's the recipe I understood after watching the video -

    Preparation Process:
      1. Cut 1.5 kg of sweet potatoes and boil them in salted water for about 15 minutes.
      2. Take out 350 grams of frozen green beans and boil them for 10 minutes.
      3. While the vegetables are cooking, add a generous slug of olive oil to a small pan and soften half a chopped onion.
      4. After ten minutes, remove the green beans, drain them, and cool them down with cold water.

    5. Once the potatoes are cooked, drain and cool them as well.

    Implementation Process:
      6. Squeeze out the excess water from the beans.

    7. Rice the vegetables using a food mill.
      8. Combine the beans with the potatoes to ensure an even mixture.

    9. Crack in four eggs and add dried marom.
      10. Whisk them together before adding the cooled and softened onion's oil.
      11. Add a generous handful of grated Parmesan cheese and mix everything thoroughly.

    Outcome:
      12.
Prepare the wide, shallow tin to put the dough on top of it and grease the tin with olive oil using your fingertips.
      13. Sprinkle some breadcrumbs over it.
      14. Spread out the potato mixture evenly and use a fork to create little ridges.

    15. Add more breadcrumbs and olive oil on top to ensure a delicious crust.
      16. Put it in the oven and bake for about 35 minutes.
      17. Finally, cut it into a pretty shape to make it appealing and complete!

    Fig 1.2 Sketch 2 (WEEK 3 / 21.2.2024)

After drawing sketches, I picked one of the two and started working on it.

Next, I laid the base colour and started coloring. Shadows were simplified and forks were painted. But when I checked the colour of the pie, it was too dark, so I changed the colour a little more clearly and brightly.

After the colour conversion, I painted ingredients and the process next.

I'm going to draw some basic drawings first, and I thought this poster would look a little boring.

    Fig 1.15 Process 13 (WEEK 3 / 25.2.2024)

So, I made a slight variation in the sketch, and drew it as if I were putting a post-it-style memo under the plate on which the pie was placed. And I found a brown image of paper texture for a slightly plain background.

Next, it was still a little bland to leave it as it was, so I added a little light. I wanted to create a poster feeling like an old-fashioned one that could be seen at a glance and be seen rather than a neat poster. After that, I revised the parts I didn't like little by little.

    FEEDBACK

    WEEK 3

Specific Feedback: He said that the overall arrangement of the paintings was well done. He told me to adjust the size of the paintings well considering the size of the given poster.

General Feedback: The lecturer liked my sketch.

    REFLECTION

This project was designed to make posters using similar therapies to the previous exercises. So it was clear what to do, but I think I was thinking about how to design it. In the last exercises, I had a clear image of a map, but this time I had a lot to think about because the scope was so open. But it was also fun. It was quite fun because it was a project full of elements that allowed me to use my favorite paintings like the last time.

I learned a lot. As I said in the paragraph above, this was something that we could build on what we did in exercises. I didn't feel why I had to learn this. I didn't think everything I learned at school was useless, I thought it would be useful somewhere. I think this project has made that idea clearer.
